Both the NFL and College Football have been hit hard by this latest incarnation of COVID-19 and its sudden spread across the United States over the past few weeks.
There have now been 4 NCAAF Bowl Games that have been canceled, bringing to light the inordinate amount of time between the final games of the regular season in early December and the CFP National Championship on January 10th.
Why wait so long to get these games in the books? Prior to the creation of the College Football Playoffs, a chief concern was the extended amount of time that student-athletes would be required to participate as a result of extra games.
Sure, give top teams a week off after conference championship weekend, but there’s no reason that betting on the College Football Playoffs couldn’t be wrapped up prior to Christmas Day.
The same can be said for all bowl games – get them in the books to avoid situations like this in the future.
For those that are interested in betting on College Football Bowl Games, here are the latest games to be removed from the schedule due to COVID-19.
Canceled Bowl Games In 2021-22
- Arizona Bowl
- Military Bowl
- Fenway Bowl
- Hawaii Bowl
Other Bowl Games Impacted By COVID-19
The Sun Bowl had to find a new team to take part in their annual postseason game when the University of Miami Hurricanes were forced to withdraw due to difficulties caused by COVID-19 contagion.
In the place of the Hurricanes will now be the Central Michigan Chippewas who will face the Washington State Cougars at noon this Friday in El Paso, Texas.
Sun Bowl betting odds are sparse at the moment as bookmakers are adjusting the lines in anticipation of Friday’s game. Anyone who previously placed a wager on Miami or the Cougars should check with their sportsbook to see if their bet was refunded or if further action is necessary.
College Football betting can and will be further impacted if COVID-19 continues to rage through locker rooms across the USA, however, CFP National Championship futures have held steady for the past several days.
There have been no indications of any impact on the College Football Playoffs Semifinal games at the Cotton Bowl and Orange Bowl this Friday, but there are still 13 days until the NCAAF National Championship Game in Indianapolis.
2021-22 CFP National Championship Betting Odds
- Alabama Crimson Tide +120
- Georgia Bulldogs +140
- Michigan Wolverines +550
- Cincinnati Bearcats +1100
Regardless of which championship-caliber college football team you plan on betting on, pay close attention to the lines across the boards to see if there are any dramatic shifts in the moneylines leading up to the CFP.
Right now, football betting sites are offering positive moneyline CFP odds for each of the final four remaining teams in play, but that can change on the fly if a key player receives a COVID-19 designation between now and then.
For instance, if the starting quarterback for any of the above teams is removed from action, bets laid right now have the potential to deliver sizable profits. Good luck!
