Opening day of the 2023-24 NCAA College Football season is just over a month away, but it is never too early to prepare for opening weekend.
What’s the rush? Legal online college football sportsbooks have posted betting lines for the opening slate of games on August 26th all the way through the 4th of September when the Clemson Tigers and Duke Blue Devils “duke” it out.
There are additional prospective NCAAF betting lines for premium games occurring through early November, but many of them only feature moneyline odds for winners and losers.
While there is no real incentive to get in on game lines this early, there is plenty of reason to bet on the CFP National Championship now. Why? Moneyline odds are cashing out higher than ever for NCAAF gamblers that have the patience to wait a few months for a hefty payout.
Here are the current CFP futures offered at Bovada Sportsbook. (Read our Bovada review to find out why they’re our #1 rated NCAAF sportsbook)
2023-24 CFP National Championship Odds To Win
- Georgia Bulldogs +225
- Alabama Crimson Tide +420
- Ohio State Buckeyes +750
- Michigan Wolverines +1000
- USC Trojans +1300
- Clemson Tigers +1500
- Texas Longhorns +1500
- LSU Tigers +1600
- Florida State Seminoles +2000
- Tennessee Volunteers +2400
Four SEC teams are included amount the top ten in the above preseason CFP odds. The Texas Longhorns are the only team from the Big 12, and they’ll be moving to the Southeastern Conference beginning in 2024.
The Ohio State Buckeyes and Michigan Wolverines, both from the Big Ten, are coming in at third and fourth overall. This implies a strong likelihood that this year’s College Football Playoffs could be encompassed entirely by SEC and Big Ten programs.
The only Pac-12 school in contention currently is the USC Trojans, who will be moving to the Big Ten in 2024.
The Clemson Tigers and FSU Seminoles are poised to compete for ACC supremacy. Florida State quarterback Jordan Travis is expected to build upon last year’s success and is a leading contender in the 2023-24 Heisman Trophy odds.
The CFP fate for both the Seminoles and the Tigers could be decided when they meet up in South Carolina on September 23rd.
College Football Playoff Sleepers For 2023-24
Savvy gamblers will notice that only members of Power Five Conferences are included in the above odds for betting on the College Football Playoffs. To be fair, Power Five programs typically make up the final four CFP teams, but that’s not always the case.
While Notre Dame is not a member of a Power Five conference, they are a nationally prominent NCAAF team that is currently ranked 12th in the CFP futures.
If the Fighting Irish can split the series between Clemson and Ohio State, there’s a chance they could make the playoffs as a one-loss team.
The next highest-ranked team, according to legal football sportsbooks, is the East Carolina Pirates of the AAC (American Athletic Conference). ECU has a huge opening game against the Michigan Wolverines on September 2nd, and betting lines suggest that the Pirates will lose by 35 points.
Whoever you decide to bet on, be sure to place your wagers with a reputable online sportsbook. The NCAAF betting sites we include in our list of reviews are the best around and should be considered your first stop for any CFP gambling.
