Borgata Casino Evacuated After Threatening Phone Call

The Borgata Hotel Casino and Spa in Atlantic City recently received a threat from an anonymous caller claiming to be in the casino with firearms and explosives.

Fortunately, the investigation conducted by the Atlantic City Police Department and the Borgata security team yielded no suspicious characters or packages. The officers were heavily present and conducted a thorough sweep of the facilities. Several portions of the casino had to be evacuated as a precautionary measure, allowing the bomb squad to conduct their sweep. However, once the all-clear was given, people were promptly allowed back into the facility.

Atlantic City Police Captain Kevin Fair said, “The validity of this threat is still under investigation.” NBC Philadelphia broke the news and was on the scene where they pictured several officers and their cars entering the casino, demonstrating the proactive approach of the police in handling the situation.

The Borgata, like many other casinos, has its own armed guards and security teams, which are usually effective deterrents against such threats. However, domestic terrorists have occasionally targeted casinos despite these measures.

Are Atlantic City Casinos Safe?

Yes, the casinos in Atlantic City are safe. However, it is wise to take precautions before entering any domestic casino, as anything can happen at a public facility. I have always enjoyed my time in Atlantic City and have visited the Borgata several times recently, always feeling safe and secure.

All the NJ casinos have security personnel, and if you don’t cause a scene or break any casino rules, you are good. However, the outside of the casinos can often be more dangerous than any of the city’s nine casino locations.

Are Online Casinos Legal In NJ?

Yes, New Jersey gambling options are plentiful, and online casinos licensed from the state are available. New Jersey is one of the few states that has actively sought to keep out-of-state online casinos away from its player pool.

While plenty of the fastest paying online casino sites are accessible in NJ, residents should steer away as they could pose legal troubles if caught wagering with a site not licensed by the Garden State.

Federal Casino Gambling Laws

The US government has not established federal gambling laws that make online gambling illegal. However, individual states, including New Jersey, have the power to decide what their residents can access online. New Jersey is one of the few states that actively regulates and licenses online casinos.

With several states offering their online casino services and most states allowing offshore casino gambling, there is no clear direction for the US online gambling market.
