Steven Cohen’s NYC Casino Proposal Meets Resistance From State Senator

NY casino logo New York Senator Jessica Ramos, a Democrat eyeing a run for mayor, has moved to stop a potential casino in Queens.

About 11 casino proposals are vying for a NYC casino license, and one of the frontrunners is current New York Mets owner Steven Cohen. Cohen has held community rallies to support his $8 billion casino project, which he hopes to build near the New York Mets stadium.

Ramos, who took a stance against a NYC Queens casino, said that she would not introduce legislation for a casino at Flushing Meadows Corona Park. Ms. Ramos said that she resented the pressure to support the proposal after her community had faced years of neglect. She also said that the community needs green space and more places for families to enjoy.

Mr. Cohen has already partnered with Hard Rock, hoping to obtain the last NYC casino license. Cohen’s proposal includes:

  • Improvements to the local subway system.
  • Twenty-five acres of parking space.
  • A Queen’s-focused dining hall.

While Cohen said he respects Ms. Ramos’s point of view, he is still committed to his casino project.

New York Online Casinos

There are currently several casinos in New York, but only one casino is technically in New York City. With numerous NY online gambling options, casino options are mainly limited to online services or upstate ventures. No state gambling laws prevent players from accessing online casino sites operating legally from out of state.

Online casinos offer the same casino games and odds that New Yorkers are accustomed to, including blackjack, craps, roulette, video poker, and more.

In addition to online casinos, New York gamblers can also participate in online sports betting and poker options.

Fastest Paying NY Online Casinos

All the fastest-paying casinos have one thing in common: cryptocurrency. While crypto is still in its infancy, online casinos are among the first industries to accept digital currency. With processing times that range from instant to 24 hours, crypto has changed the industry for many players, both foreign and domestic.

NY players will also see expanded bonus rewards for utilizing Bitcoin and other popular altcoins. While not every site will accept digital coins, the reputable online casino sites we review, all accept some form of digital cash.

What’s Next For The New York City Casino License?

There are currently 11 proposals for the last NYC casino license, but a decision has yet to be made as of June 2024. The NY Gaming Commission has suggested awarding the casino license in 2025 despite stating that a decision would be made in 2024.
